Time-domain finite element analysis to nonlinear transient responses of generalized diffusion-thermoelasticity with variable thermal conductivity and diffusivity

Numerous experimental and theoretical studies indicate that thermal conductivity and diffusivity in materials cannot be viewed as constants in practical analysis. This provides us a motivation to capture the nonlinear transient responses of generalized diffusion-thermoelasticity problems with variable thermal conductivity and diffusivity. The nonlinear finite element governing equations are derived due to the consideration of variable thermal conductivity and diffusivity. By using time-domain finite element method, nonlinear solutions can be obtained. Numerical examples are given to investigate the transient responses of a slim strip and a half-space. Nonlinear transient responses are obtained and illustrated graphically. The results show that the variable thermal conductivity and diffusivity have significant effects on propagations of thermal wave and diffusive wave. Parametric analysis is also performed to predict their influences on nonlinear thermo-elasto-diffusive responses.
