摘要
A novel approach to the fabrication of multi-dimensional arrays of bio-nanostructures and bio-inorganic hybrids and nanocomposites is presented. The aim of such research is to understand and fabricate novel nanodevices by designed self-assembly of two systems of inherent stability, that is biological and inorganic compounds. The emergence of self-assembled bio-inorganic nanostructured materials is expected to contribute to the development of a new generation of purpose-built materials with direct applications in biological and medical fields such as bio-sensors, biocatalysts, chromatographic matrices as well as matrices with innovative biological functionality. In addition to such applied outcome, such studies aim to bring better fundamental understanding of self-assembly processes to ultimately reach controlled self-assembly, that is where specific instructions for the final design and architecture of supramolecular nanostructures are purposely-built into its components.
