Shape optimization of the microscale open channel chromatography

摘要

Based on the theoretical model of the volume averaging method, the cross sectional shape of microscale open channel chromatography is optimized to minimize the dispersion coefficient using a topological optimization tool. It is found that, the dispersion can be obviously weakened by the shape optimization. The optimal shape is different from the common rectangular cross section, which depends on the flow resistance coefficient. Larger flow resistance coefficient corresponds to larger width to height ratio of the optimal shape. It is expected that the separation speed and separation accuracy can be markedly improved using the optimal shape for the design of microscale open channel chromatography.
