摘要
It is important to research new energy storage technology for substituting the deficiencies of current energy storage devices, i.e., the poor energy density of lead-acid batteries, the high cost of lithium-ion batteries, etc. Rechargeable aluminum batteries (RABs) are regarded as one of the most promising storage devices due to the abundance of the materials required, superior security, and decent energy density of aluminum anodes. Nevertheless, there are some significant challenges, such as the developing energy density of cathodes, corrosion, and the high cost of electrolytes, which set obstacles to the industrialization of RABs. For avoiding the pitfalls of RABs research and boosting the development of RABs, the recent progress and trends in RABs covering mechanisms, components of RABs (electrodes, electrolytes, separators, and current collectors) and technology of assembly and packaging of devices are summarized and proposed.
