N2 - In this paper, a novel leaf-type fins is proposed in order to enhance the natural convective heat dissipation in the cabinet of the communication equipment. A three-dimensional flow and heat transfer numerical model is built and validated by experimental method. After validation, the key geometric parameters of the fins are numerically optimized, and then, the synergy angles between velocity and temperature gradient, and heat transfer performance of the optimal leaf-type fins, conventional vertical plate fins, slotted fins and chimney-type fins are comparatively studied under the same heating power. The results show that there are optimum fin incline angle and fin pitch (60°, 10 mm) for the leaf-type fin, and the average synergy angle and temperature of the leaf-type fin are the lowest. The above studies indicate that the proposed leaf-type fins can efficaciously enhance the natural convective heat dissipation in the cabinet of the communication equipment.
