Microstructure and tribological properties of VN/Ag films fabricated by pulsed laser deposition technique

摘要

A series of VN/Ag films varied in Ag-concentration were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique and characterized by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction technique, nanomechanical testing system and UMT-3 wear tester. The results showed that the deteriorating surface morphology and decreased mechanical properties of the films are attributed to the increased Ag content. The VN/Ag films with Ag-concentrations of 16% registered the enhanced tribological property compared to the others over the investigated temperatures, the friction coefficient decreased with the temperature increasing and hold the lowest value of 0.08 at 900℃. Combining with the lubricating Ag at low temperatures and the new lubrication phase generated by tribochemical reaction could be responsible to the excellent tribological performance of the VN/Ag films in a wide temperature range.
