Measuring the level of tourism development based on entropy weight TOPSIS method

摘要

The tourism industry is a pillar industry of China’s national economy. To further promote the development of China’s tourism industry, it is necessary to measure its development level. This article uses the entropy weighted TOPSIS method to measure the development level of tourism industry in 31 provinces in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) by selecting 10 secondary indicators from 2 categories of tourism industry resources and tourism industry benefits. The research results indicate that the development level of tourism in 31 provinces in China from 2011 to 2019 was relatively stable, with five different types appearing in time evolution, namely leading type, rapid growth type, declining type, lower level type, and fluctuating development type. In spatial evolution, there were higher levels in East China, Central China, and South China, lower levels in Northwest China and Northeast China, middle levels in North China and Southwest China, and faster growth rates in Southwest China. Based on the research results, three countermeasures have been proposed to improve the development level of the tourism industry. One is to accelerate the development of digital culture and tourism. The second is to strengthen rural cultural tourism. The third is to optimize tourism industry policies and enhance the vitality of tourism industry development.
