Investigation and Analysis of the Thermal Characterization of the Saddle-Column in Precision Horizontal Machining Center

摘要

The saddle-column is a critical structural component of precision horizontal machining center, and its thermal errors have a direct impact on the machining accuracy of the machine tool. However, the influencing factors and evolution mechanisms of the temperature field and thermal errors in the saddle-column remain unclear, as does the extent of their effect on spindle positioning. To address these issues, this study proposes a comprehensive method for measuring the temperature field and thermal errors of the saddle-column in horizontal machining centers. The results reveal that, in addition to primary thermal sources such as the spindle and feed axes, components including solenoid valves and their associated hydraulic circuits, servo systems, and accumulators also significantly affect the thermal distribution of the saddle-column. During X-axis feed motion, angular errors of the saddle-column can exceed 10 μrad, and straightness errors can reach over 7 μm, both of which directly alter the spindle’s pose and introduce additional tool tip positioning errors. This work lays a solid foundation for the thermal error modeling and compensation of the saddle-column in precision horizontal machining center.
