Information theoretic measure for wavelet selection in non-stationary vibration analysis

摘要

This paper presents an information theoretic measure for base wavelet selection with application to bearing vibration signal analysis. The developed measure takes into account the relationship between the signal being analyzed and the wavelet coefficients that result from wavelet transform of the signal, to evaluate the appropriateness of various candidate wavelets in extracting signatures that are indicative of structural defects. Experiments using vibration signals measured from a ball bearing have verified that the developed measure provides systematic and quantitative guidance to selecting base wavelet for optimized signal analysis.
