Improving WSN survivability with rejuvenation technology

摘要

The conventional security technology for WSN is mainly focused on improvement to system's anti-invasion ability, however, seldom concerns how the system should go on providing external services after the invasion and failure, leading to the system's low survivability. The WSN survivability depends most critically on base station that attaches WSN to outside networks including Internet. So, to increase the survivability, one Survivable model for base station in WSN is presented with rejuvenation technology, where it is designed to provide continued useful services in face of attacks, failure or accidents and to prevent the intruders' attempts in their attack. Otherwise, this model is described by using Semi-Markov Process and it is discovered that the detection probability of system compromised state is the key parameter of improving the model's survivability by analyzing the model's stable health state probability. The experimental results show that the system detection probability is in inverse proportion to the failure probability. According to thought of rejuvenation technology, the failure probability can be reduced significantly so as to enhance the survivability of the system.
