abstract = "The stacked neutral-point-clamped (NPC) half-bridge five-level converters which can withstand higher dc bus voltage with fewer devices is a potential scheme to increase the power density of dc solid state transformers (DCSST). An improved voltage balancing method is proposed for the stacked NPC five-level converters in this paper. This method is based on equivalent switching state replacement. And compared to existing method, it has no effect on power transmission characteristics of the converters. Simulation of stacked NPC half-bridge five-level dual active bridge (DAB) and LLC resonant converter are carried out and the effectiveness of proposed voltage balancing method is verified.",
