摘要
A new method for fractal block image coding, called genetic fractal block coding (GFBC) is presented. The conventional fractal block coding (FBC) is extremely time-consuming, and its classification criterion for blocks is not appropriate because of the relatively large size of block. Furthermore, the search result is often locally optimal. In GFBC, a new search strategy based on genetic algorithm (GA) is used for performing blocks searching. Compared with FBC, the searching range of GFBC is only on the level of O(10-1), while its searching result is nearly global optimal and shows better performance for decoding still image.
