摘要

Ensiling can be a good storage option to preserve organic matter for anaerobic digestion (AD). In this study, the effects of food waste addition and storage duration on ensiling and anaerobic digestion of giant reed were evaluated. Results showed that addition of 7% food waste (dry weight basis) to giant reed successfully decreased silage pH to about 4.0 within one week, increased the production of lactic acids, and obtained a dry matter loss of 0.3% after 28 days. Addition of 3% and 7% food waste to giant reed increased cumulative methane yield by 7.4% and 19.7%, respectively. A 28-day ensiling process improved the cumulative methane yield of giant reed by 9.2% from giant reed with 3% food waste addition, but had less effect for giant reed with 7% food waste. Addition of food waste to giant reed enhanced both ensiling and AD processes.
