N2 - In this paper, we proposed a novel local adaptive noise reduction operator based on a location shifting procedure. The proposed method aims at removing noise from images while preserving features. Performance of the method is illustrated by simulation and real images which show an encouraging improvement compared with other methods. The other advantages of the proposed method are its noniterative feature, explicit formulation, and, consequently, its numerical simplicity.
