abstract = "Permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PMaSynRM) not only reduces the cost but also has higher performance due to its use of ferrite magnet excitation. This paper designs a ferrite PMaSynRM and optimizes the rotor structure based on the finite element method (FEM) to achieve high-performance for water pump applications. By reducing the proportion of the magnetic barriers at both ends, real slots are set at each pole of the rotor and the magnetic barrier ends at both ends are tapered to optimize the torque ripple of the motor. The characteristics of the motor are simulated and verified, and the results show that PMaSynRM has a higher salient pole rate and the efficiency is equivalent to that of PMSM.",
