Design and optimization of shell-and-tube heat exchanger by goose LDW-PSO

摘要

Shell-and-tube heat exchangers are widely used in industrial processes, and minimizing their cost is an important target for both designers and users. This paper proposes a procedure for the optimal design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers based on Goose Linearly Decreasing Inertia Weight-Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (Goose LDW-PSO) to minimize the total cost of the equipment. In order to verify the capability of this method, one case studied by other researches in the open literature is chosen to compare with the results obtained by Goose LDW-PSO. In the examined case, although the number of tubes of the Goose LDW-PSO optimized design is much more than that of the original exchanger, the total cost of the heat exchanger could be reduced a lot.
