N2 - Cloud-based media streaming provides an effective means to achieve large-scale media streaming services. To fully utilize the low cost and elastic resource of cloud, media streaming service providers intend to deploy their media server clusters in cloud environment. Since media streaming is a bandwidthintensive application, how to optimize internal bandwidth utilization of data center network (DCN) in media cloud is a key issue for deploying these VM(Virtual Machine)-hosted media servers. Although VM placement problem has been intensively studied, existing solutions are lack of support for structured media server cluster. Therefore, in this study, for a predefined media server cluster structure, we have proposed a clusteraware VM placement algorithm SCVMPP (Specific Cluster VM Placement Problem), so as to optimize the internal bandwidth utilization in DCN. SCVMPP models the optimal problem as a quadratic assignment problem, and provides an ant colony optimization algorithm for placing the given media server cluster. Our evaluation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the intra-bandwidth utilization of DCN with different settings for a given structured media server cluster.
