N2 - For the cascade STATCOM system, the traditional proportional integral (PI) control may bring the poor dynamic performance and be difficult in parameter determination. Therefore, a passive control based current tracking method is proposed for the cascade STATCOM. By establishing the passive model, the proposed controller is designed based on the global stability requirement of the system, so as to have strong robustness to external disturbances and parameter changes. The influence of passive parameters on system performance is analyzed and the off-line design of passive parameters is presented to aid in the implementation. At last, the cascade STATCOM control system is built and the feasibility and superiority of the passive controller is verified by simulation.
