Atomic packing of the inherent structure of simple liquids

摘要

The geometrical packing of the mechanically stable inherent structure (IS) that underlied the simple liquids was analyzed. The energy minimization was performed on each instantaneous configuration without interrupting the dynamics of the system using the conjugate gradient method. The energy landscape consisted of three regions such as the equilibrium liquid at high temperatures, the supercooled liquid at intermediate temperatures and the glassy state below the glass transition temperatures. The results show that the inherent packing state, that carry the maximized configurational entropy has intrinsic connections with the maximally random jammed state of hard spheres.
