N2 - In order to have a clearer understanding of the future political trend of the United States, this paper introduces big data technology to conduct word frequency statistics on the inaugural speech of Joe Biden, the 46th president of the United States. On this basis, this paper adopts the social interpersonal function theory in systemic functional linguistics proposed by Halliday to analyze the discourse of the inauguration of the new president of the United States, revealing the metaphors behind it from the perspectives of modality, person and tone. This helps us get a better understanding of the political direction of the United States in his term of office. The results show that that Biden uses a large number of first-person pronouns to narrow the distance with the public and win the favor of voters. In terms of modality, Biden used the second person to make a series of promises to win the support of voters. In terms of tone, Biden used a lot of declarative tone to promote his political views.
