摘要

The symmetry analysis of the implosion of a cylindrical target driven by a rotating heavy ion beam is presented. The study has been performed by means of an analytical model and by two-dimensional numerical simulations. The asymmetry results essentially depend on the temporal profile of the power pulse. For a box pulse it is proportional to 1/N, where N is the number of beam revolutions, and for the more realistic case of a parabolic temporal profile it is proportional to 1/N2, showing that a 1% asymmetry can be achieved with N-10. One-dimensional simulations have also been performed by considering a Gaussian spatial distribution in order to assess the optimum radial position of the beam center. Results shown that with a gold target, a hydrogen sample in the target axis can be compressed to 1.4 g/cm3 with a temperature lower than 0.1 eV.
