An accelerated wear model for magnetic heads with respect to sensory data

摘要

Head wear is becoming inevitable for currently hard disk drives, as they used a nano-level or sub-nano-level spacing to read and store data. Accurate characterization of the wear process can help understand the wear mechanism of head disk interaction and thus is critical in predicting the future evolution of wear and in guiding the design of HDDs of later vintages. Our previous work has put effort in developing the accelerated wear model whose stress information was obtained with aid of a finite element simulation. This paper considered a more general case that using a sensory data of stress information to replace the simulation. The results show that our model agrees well with the experiment.
