A case of drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome associated with cytomegalovirus infection

Drug-associated hypersensitivity syndrome (DHS) is a rare and potentially fatal drug reaction characterized by fever, skin rash and internal organ abnormalities. It has been accepted that virus infection may play a role in the development of this syndrome. Here a typical case of drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome associated with cytomegalovirus infection is reported. A 21-year-old lady presented with typical clinical features of eruption, abnormal results of blood test and internal organ involved. The detection of copy of CMV DNA in patient's sera was coincidence with its clinic manifestation.
