X-ray Radiation in 126 kV Vacuum Interrupters During Sequential Power-Frequency Conditioning and Comparative Analysis of Conditioning Methods

Abstract

In this paper, the evolution of X-ray radiation characteristics during sequential power-frequency voltage conditioning processes of a single 126 kV vacuum interrupter (VI) is investigated, and the effectiveness of three conditioning methods from a radiation perspective are compared. Experiments were conducted using a self-designed spectrometer to measure X-ray dose and spectrum during sequential conditioning processes. It was found a progressive reduction in total X-ray dose and significant spectral hardening across five conditioning experiments. Comparative analysis of three methods revealed that high-current preconditioning reduced subsequent power-frequency conditioning dose rate by 35% and softened the spectrum, compared with conventional powerfrequency voltage conditioning.
