Abstract

To address the low efficiency and understandability in traditional knowledge navigation visualization, a "Focus and Context" visualization approach for large-scale knowledge map (KM) is presented. It extracts "Backbone" of a KM based on its invulnerability and dynamically generates "Focus Area" by the focus knowledge unit and its adjacent areas. Experimental results show that the visualization approach highly speeds up the initialization time of KM, simultaneously displays both the local focus and global context, and effectively facilitates learner's navigate learning.
