Abstract

In this paper, we present an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) to exploit vibration energy. Firstly, a piezoelectric transducer (PT) transforms mechanical vibration into AC electricity. Then an active rectifier converts AC electricity into DC power. A boost converter is adopted as impedance matching load to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The system characterizes an effective MPPT circuit as well as a fast open-voltage sampling design, which is capable of sensing and tracking the maximum power point (MPP) of energy source in order to extract maximum piezoelectric energy. Measurement results show that the high power conversion efficiency (up to 80%) of the system is achieved.
