Abstract

An ultrasound-assisted solidification is utilized to improve the distribution of TiB2 particles in Al matrix. Results show that ultrasound generates the effects of local undercooling, accelerating heat and mass transfer and initiating the melt flow which are able to avoid the deposition of TiB2 particles, and further make more TiB2 particles distribute within grains by improving the nucleation of α-Al grains on TiB2 particles and promoting the engulfment of TiB2 particles by growing interface.
