Abstract

The orderly and rapid restoration of the distribution system (DS) after disasters relies on the accuracy and reliability of fault location. Disasters may also damage communication infrastructure, e.g., wireless base stations, resulting in failure to report fault information detected by remote fault indicators (RFIs) in a timely manner. By utilizing the emergency wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), this paper proposes a UAV-assisted communication restoration and fault location coordinated strategy. Designing multiple objectives, the strategy co-optimizes the communication restoration and fault location to get the UAVs' flight trajectory as well as to identify the fault location and RFI abnormalities. The proposed method is verified for accuracy and validity by applying it to the IEEE 33-node system.
