Abstract

The thermodynamic characteristics of the thermo-Acoustic system with the helium-argon mixtures as working fluid were investigated experimentally in the self-built test rig of Standing-Wave Thermo-acoustic Engine. The focus is on the exploration of the axial temperature distribution and dynamic characteristics of the thermo-acoustic system during the on-set process under different charging pressure and working fluid. The experimental results reveal that the different working fluids affect the temperature dynamic characteristic of the thermo-acoustic engine during on-set process directly. When the pure argon and the pure nitrogen are selected as the working fluids, the temperature dynamic characteristics of the thermo-acoustic engine are consistent, but the temperature gradient of the thermo-acoustic core and that of the thermo-acoustic stacks display the distinct difference. However, when the helium is used, the temperature distributions are more different from the above two gases and the difference between the temperature gradient of the thermo-acoustic core and that of the thermo-acoustic stacks is little.
