Abstract
A three-stage inrush-current suppression circuit is proposed for the boundary conduction mode boost circuit, which not only can suppress the first inrush current when powered on in the boost topology but also can suppress the secondary inrush current caused by the working of the boost circuit; the inrush current caused by the electromagnetic interference filter can also be suppressed. The simulations are performed to prove the rightness and feasibility of the circuit, and the circuit is used in a 1000-W two-stage electronic ballast for the metal halide lamp. In the experiment, the first inrush current is nearly 0 A, and the second inrush current is less than 12 A.
