Abstract
Three-dimensional model is developed for natural convection heat transfer in a cylindrical envelope with an internal concentric cylinder with slots. Three and two dimensional numerical results are compared with Wang's experimental results. When the Rayleigh number is lower, the system is steady three and two dimensional numerical solutions are consistent with experimental solutions. When the Rayleigh number is higher, the system is unsteady with steady and symmetric boundary condition. Those oscillated solution shows three characteristics of flow and heat transfer. The discrepancy between two-dimensional numerical and experimental results increases gradually with the increasing Ra numbers, but the three-dimensional numerical results is more continent with experimental results.
