Abstract

Simulation of the arc plasma is helpful to the design of new switch devices and radiation is an important energy transfer in the low voltage switching arc. In the low voltage arc simulation of published literatures, the radiation model was built based on the net emission coefficient. However, there is only energy emission and no attenuation by either absorption or scattering per unit in the net emission coefficient method, which is low precision in the low temperature units. In this paper, the radiation energy in low voltage switching arc is calculated by the P-1 model. A three-dimensional arc chamber model is presented, which is based on the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The distribution of the electrical potential and current density are described by the electrical conductivity which is dependent on the temperature. Furthermore, the radiation flux is obtained by the 6 bands P-1 model equations.
