Abstract
Light-gas gun is used to feed fuel pellet into controlled fusion reactor. The pellet injection process of a two-stage single piston light-gas gun is simulated by variable-mass thermodynamics and characteristic curve method with helium as propellant. The gas pressure and temperature in reservoir and pumping pipes at different stage versus time during pellet injection are described. The velocities of piston and pellet and displacement variation are given. Some parameters affecting the gun performance are discussed, which can be used as a reliable theoretical criterion for the gun design and optimization.
