Abstract
Objective: To discuss the advantages and application prospect of iodine-125 radioactive seeds implantation for pancreatic carcinoma by clinical comparison. Methods: We collected 104 medical records of pancreatic carcinoma in the Second Affiliated Hospital, Medical School of Xi'an Jiaotong University. The 104 hospitalized cases were divided into 3 groups according to the main treatments received. The three groups were compared in symptomatic remission after treatment, hospitalization time, side effects and complications as well as follow-ups of their long-term symptom remission, life quality and life span. Results: Pancreatic fistula, gastrointestinal obstruction, bone marrow suppression, overall length of hospital stay and average life span of the three groups were significantly different. However, the three groups did not differ significantly in other characteristics. Conclusion: The performance of iodine-125 radioactive seeds implantation is more acceptable for pancreatic carcinoma than other traditional therapies. Therefore, it can be used as an effective treatment for patients with intermediate and advanced pancreatic carcinoma.
