Abstract

The paper investigates the impact of diverse control strategies on the power transfer limit (PTL) of converterinterfaced generators (CIGs) grid-connected systems. Specifically, for a converter interfacing with a single infinite bus system, a coupling relationship exists between the system's active power, reactive power, and the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). This implies that distinct reactive power control strategies can significantly influence the maximum active power transfer capability of the system. Furthermore, the converter's capacity is typically only slightly greater than its rated power due to its limited overcurrent tolerance. In this paper, the effect of converter capacity constraints on the system ultimate transferred power under different converter control strategies is further considered, and the analytical solution for the converter ultimate transferred power under different control strategy is given. The findings of this research offer theoretical insights that are instrumental for the design of control strategies aimed at integrating CIGs into large-scale power systems via transmission lines.
