Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effects of family environment and personality on the life satisfaction of young adults. The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), and the Family Environment Scale Chinese Version (FES-CV-SV) were completed by 1749 Chinese young adults (Mage = 19.88 years, SD = 1.63). The survey results showed that family cohesion had a positive effect on life satisfaction, and family conflict had a negative effect on life satisfaction. Family cohesion and conflict had a significant indirect effect on life satisfaction through the two dimensions of personality extraversion and neuroticism. Therefore, improving the family environment and the relationship between members can improve young adults’ life satisfaction and enhance their happiness experience.
