Abstract

The nonlinear stability of a squeeze film damper(SFD)-sliding bearing-rotor system are investigated experimentally in this paper. The results of experiment show that SFD can effectively prevent subsynchronous and nonsynchronous vibrations and improve the stability of the system greatly. It can be seen that the parameters such as stiffness of flexible support, unbalance mass, and damper radial clearance have significant effects on the dynamic behaviors of the system and are very important in damper optimal design.
