Abstract
BaTiO3 based ceramic capacitors have been widely used in power system for their excellent withstand ability to high-voltage, wide temperature range and humidity characters. In this paper, these capacitors were used as couplers for VHF (Very high frequency) partial discharge (PD) monitoring instead of micro stack capacitors, which are commonly installed at line terminals of hydrogenerators. The coupler construction and its manufacturing techniques were briefly discussed. The dielectric properties under different circumstances and frequency response of the coupler were also studied. Finally, these couplers were successfully installed in a hydro-plant in China and some valuable data were obtained.
