Abstract
The performance and emissions of a direct injection diesel engine operating on the diesel/dimethoxymethane blends were investigated. The results show that the brake specific fuel consumption (b. s. f. c.) is increased while the diesel equivalent brake specific fuel consumption is decreased and the thermal efficiency will increase with the increase of dimethoxymethane (DMM) fraction in the blends. For the same brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), the exhaust smoke and CO decrease with the increase of DMM fraction in the blends while NOx shows little variation with the addition of DMM in diesel fuel.
