Abstract

Laminar flame characteristics of premixed ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE)/air flames were measured at a constant volume bomb at different conditions. The Creck model and Curran model of ETBE were also validated according to the experimental results. Experimental results show that ethanol has the fastest laminar flame speed among the five kinds of fuels of methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE), ethyl tert-butyl ether, ethanol, isooctane and 95#gasoline and the differences of laminar flame speeds of the other four fuels are relatively small. The existing models perform not well in predicting laminar flame speeds of ETBE. The experimental and numerical results of the critical flame radius reveal that the flame instability of ETBE increases with the increase of pressure and equivalence ratio. The research work will provide theoretical guidance for the use of ETBE as a gasoline additive.
