Abstract

Three kinds of laminated materials 1420Al-Li Alloy, hot rolled LF21 laminate and explosive bonded LY12 laminate were applied to investigate the effect of interface bonding strength on L-T orientation fatigue crack propagation. The results show that, with decreasing interface bonding strength, the declamination is more serious and the toughening resulted from crack growth arrested becomes more obvious. However the mechanisms of crack propagation arresting to the three kinds of laminates are different, i.e. the crack closure toughening for the Al-Li alloy, the delamination toughening for the explosive bonded and hot rolled laminates, respectively.
