Abstract
The elementary studies of cascading faults in complicated power systems are given in this paper. The status quo mechanisms and analytical needs of cascading fault studies are summarized. Especially, the indices measuring power system cascading faults are presented for the first time and then the theory of cascading fault evaluation is established. Moreover, an efficient algorithm can be developed based on the above studies, which incorporates various causes of cascading faults and achieves quantitative evaluation of power system cascading faults.
