Abstract
The stress-optic effect in YAP crystal optical fiber was analyzed theoretically by means of the theory of disturbed optical fibers and the elasto-optic effect theory of optical fiber, and studied experimentally. Experimental methods including the treatment of end of crystal optical fiber, determination of axis of the fiber and the method for applying a force to the fiber were described. Experimental results demonstrated that the modulation depth of light intensity was greatly related to the dispersion angle of light at the fiber end. This kind of crystal optical fiber can be used in elasto-optic modulation, pressure and acceleration sensing, and theoretical foundation was provided for the design of this kind of sensors.
