Abstract
To cope with the energy crisis, environmental pollution and global warming problem, the efficient mandatory policy has always been sought for Chinese government to promote renewable energy development rapidly and sustainably. Resolving this crisis has provided an opportunity for the development of Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), which indicates that the share of renewable energy in total energy consumption must satisfy a certain ratio determined by laws. Thus, the RPS has superiority in accommodation of renewable energy. This paper establishes a new unit commitment model considering the RPS where the uncertainties from renewable energy are modeled by the probabilistic distribution function. The effectiveness and the validity of the proposed new unit commitment model are verified using numerical examples based on a real local power grid in China.
