Abstract

Spallation target coupling the sub-critical reactor and the proton accelerator is the crucial part of accelerator driven sub-critical system (ADS). In this paper, thermal-hydraulic behavior and thermal stress response of a typical window target were investigated under start-up transient conditions by using the commercial software ANSYS. The results show that thermal stress in the target window reaches the maximum value at 0.5 s after the beam jump. Under beam ramp mode, the thermal stress reaches the maximum value among the half second after the beginning and before the end of the transient. The integrity of the spallation target can be guaranteed under the two different beam start-up transient modes.
