Abstract
This is the second part of a series of two papers. Applications of the concept of spinning reserve width (SRW) proposed in the first part of the series of papers are discussed. Up/down spinning reserve requirements were among the important system wide constraints in unit commitment (UC) including power sources with uncertain power outputs. A group of analytical necessary and sufficient feasibility conditions for such UC problems were proposed in this paper. The conditions were composed of five linear inequalities with respect to the commitment states of generators. Parameters of generators including SRW appear in the inequalities. The inequalities can be used as valid inequalities of integer programming. It is found that the computation efficiency of commercial solvers can be improved when the inequalities are added to the original UC formulation and the conditions provide an efficient way to identify the robustness of a UC solution for scenario based UC formulations.
