Simulation of dynamic behavior and contact bounce of AC contactor

Abstract

The dynamic process analysis of AC contactors is crucial for optimal design. Besides, the bounce of contacts directly affects the lifetime of AC contactors. This paper uses virtual prototype technology to simulate the dynamic process and contact bounce of AC contactors by coupling circuit equation, electromagnetic field equation, and mechanical motion equation. The effects of closing phase angle, coil voltage, and spring parameters on the dynamic process and contact bounce are studied on this basis. The calculated results are verified by experiments. The proposal method in the paper provides a way to learn the dynamic characteristics and contact bounce of AC contactors.
