Abstract

Based on IEEE-RTS data, block bidding power market is simulated and analyzed. The effect of block division and the market rules to the power auction are studied. Results show that the more load blocks are divided, the more payment saving can be gained, and the market rules are necessary to guarantee the feasible and rational power scheduling. The auction of hydro unit in the block bidding is proposed. Hydro unit is dispatched in advance and paid as the price of loaded block, which can sufficiently utilize hydro energy and reflect the contribution to the system. In either case of the typical daily load and weekly load, block bidding and hourly bidding are compared. The results indicate that, in contrast to hourly bidding, block bidding decreases the market payment and improves market efficiency, and the clearing prices are more stable.
