N2 - The SVPWM control strategy of a seven-leg voltage source inverter (SL-VSI) for a novel dual-armature winding dual-PM flux modulated machine (DWDM) is proposed in this paper. The DWDM has 5-phase stator windings and 3-phase rotor windings, and the permanent magnets arranged in Halbach forms are embedded in both stator and rotor slots. The DWDM is able to generate array-torque components based on unique slot/pole combinations. Similar to a five-leg VSI (FL-VSI) dual three-phase machine driving, the eight-phase DWDM can be controlled using a SL-VSI as the supply, with one inverter leg being common to both the stator and the rotor. The proposed topology can increase the power density of the integrated system. It can also serve as a fault-tolerant solution when an open-circuit fault occurs in the power device of a bridge arm in the commonly used eight-phase VSI. Two SVPWM methods for the FL-VSI, i.e., the half-period method and the centralization modulation method, are generalized to the proposed SL-VSI. The simulation results verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
