Abstract

In this letter, we present a self-powered magnetic sensor based on Metglas/Pb(Mg 1/3Nb 2/3)O 3-PbTiO 3 (PMN-PT) laminates which has an extremely low equivalent magnetic noise in the quasi-static frequency range of f < 100 Hz. The magnetic noise density was only 7 pT/√Hz at 1 Hz and less than 2 pT/√Hz for 10 Hz < f < 100 Hz. In addition, the Metglas/PMN-PT laminates can be used to harvest magnetic energy at their resonant frequencies. The maximum output power reaches 8 mW/Oe under an 11 kΩ load resistance. Highly efficient magnetic energy harvesters can be used to charge a battery. Thus, we have developed self-powered magnetic sensors capable of long term deployment.
